Jaylen Brown is one of the Celtics' most important players, but he's been the subject of trade rumors for most of his time with the team, ever since big names like Kawhi Leonard and Anthony Davis were linked to the team a decade ago.

Even though Brown was in the NBA Finals in 2022, his name came up in trade rumors again last summer when Kevin Durant asked to be traded and Boston was rumored to be interested in him.
In response to these rumors, Brown told Logan Murdock of The Ringer that he talked to Brad Stevens and Jayson Tatum on the phone to find out what was going on.
"[KD] and JT get along. Brown told Murdock, "They were working out together and doing other things." "So, I didn't know what the power was. I wasn't sure where the organization was going."
Brad Stevens put an end to the rumors in that conversation, which is something he has done in public many times in the past month.
Stevens said of the call with Brown, "You just have to talk straight." "And all you have to do is be able to say, 'This is what's true. We're right here. We've built the whole team around you and Jayson, so it's clear that you and he are the most important players. And we fully expect us to come together to compete and try to win two more games than we did last year.'"
At the trade deadline, Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, and four future first-round picks were sent to the Suns in exchange for Durant. Brown seemed to remember the uncertainty of the situation for a long time.
Brown said, "Once we all got together and kind of talked it over, we all left on the same page." "But based on what was going on at the time, it didn't seem like that was where the organization was headed. I have no idea. At least, it was hard to say."
Those Durant rumors and a lot of other trade rumors that happened during Brown's six years in Boston may have hurt the relationship between the team and the star forward.
Brown told Murdock, "It's hard to join teams and organizations and be friendly." "I think they work by different rules. This is a business or group. They see it as a business, so they'll tell you one thing and then tell you another thing behind closed doors. They'll trade you off. Tell you, "We love you," and the next thing you know, they're saying, "We're going to trade him next week." I just think that's how business is done.
"For example, in the South, where I'm from, it's rude not to enter through the front door. I feel like a lot of the time in corporate settings, everyone wants to come in through the back door or an angle."
